Special yummy for being good!

Since Momma wasn't feeling well again today, it means we didn't get to go out and go for walkies or play in the yard. Which is sad, because it was actually decently warm today, for January. Lately the temperatures have rarely been going above 20*F...today it made it above 30*F and almost to 40*! It would have been a perfect day for a little walk down the road and some of my favorite game of fetch in the yard.

I am sad we did not get to do those things, but it's ok because I kept myself quite busy with my chews, or one of my stuffies or just napping and cuddling with Momma on the couch.

So for being such a good boy today, Momma gave me a special yummy treat that I had never had before...a hard boiled egg!

...what are you? Are you food?

You are tasty...you must be food!

On-nom-nom...so good.

Oooh this is the best part!

I had never had one of these before..but I sure do hope to have one again. This being a good boy thing certainly pays off!

Things seem to be back in order....

..at least with the computin' stuff.

With momma, that's another story. She has the plague the beginnings of a sickie, and so is making all kinds of awful noise from her nose and keeps on referring to the tissue box she's carrying with her as her new best friend.

This is your new 'best friend', Mom?!
So computer is back in working order, but momma went out of working order.

Kind of funny, isn't it?

Still having some issues...

Yup. Momma is still having some issues with the computin' so blog things may be a bit sporadic for a little longer.

Luckily, there's not much going on here to be missed.

So until something actually happens, I'll just be napping in my sunspot here.

Black and White Sunday

Woofie, everyone! Hope all is well out here in Blogville...I've been very absent this week due to some computer issues at home. Hopefully they are all fixed up now so this new week I should be around again. If I am not...well....guess they weren't so fixed up afterall!

Tasty Tuesday : Banana Bites

....Tasty Tuesday...this means food and cooking doesn't it? Is THAT why you made me wear your silly apron again?!
Actually...Mom is REALLY excited about this one, because she LOVES cooking and baking. Actually before she even though of having a dog or having a dog-blog...she had a baking and cooking blog.

Or, well...she tried to have a baking and cooking blog.

It didn't last long for various reasons.

BUT ANYWAY...that's the past. What matter now is the present...and what's happening in the present?

Banana Bites are!

Here are the ingredients, and the amounts for each one needed under the picture:

1/2c milk - 1/4c oil - 1/2c. honey - 1 1/4c. flour - 3c. oatmeal - 2 eggs - 2 bananas, mashed
(The above photo is a tad inaccurate...mom got curious about oils for dogs after taking it, and went online to do some quick research. In our recipe we used a light olive oil instead of the above pictured canola!)

Before mashing your banana, be sure to have your dog taste test it for you. YUM!

After getting your stuffs together, you first want to mix all your wet ingredients together (milk, oil, honey, eggs and banana).  It should looks something like this:

All the wet stuffs mixed together!

Then just go ahead and mix in all the remaining dry ingredients (flour and oatmeal) until it makes a nice smooth batter.

Taste test.

Om-nomnom...Mom this is gonna be good!
Heat your oven to 350*F, get out a baking pan and lightly grease it. Then go ahead and poor the batter into the pan, and spread it evenly.

Ready for the oven to get baked up.

Bake it for 30 minutes. Let it cool on the pan.

You can then cut it into bite-sized squares in the pan, or if you are like Momma flip it out onto a cutting board to be cut there.

Cut squares of yummy!

Then...enjoy!

...is that piece for me, mom? I think it should be...

Ooooh...it's chewy...and so good!

These treats are good for your pawrents, too! IF you feel like sharing them, IF they've given you plenty of belly rubs and ear scratches that day.

Mom always wants to say thank you to all our furiends who have kept her father in their good thoughts. He is doing ok in the hospital. Apparently for some reason the bottom of his stomach has closed up...so things can get in but not not. This is something that has happened in the past, and they had no idea why then. Maybe they can find a reason this time.

Why I looked like a silly squirrel!

So...just why was I looking like a silly squirrel in the picture Momma posted of me for Black and White Sunday yesterday?

Here's the uncropped, in color version!

Snowball!
Momma was throwing snowballs for me yesterday! She hadn't done that before, and we found out that I really really love to jump after them!

Throw it...I'm gonna get it!

RAWR! GONNA GET YOU!

And lastly...for a little dog like me...I can get A LOT of air! Look how high I can go!

Also, in some less fun news...momma asks that you keep her father in your thoughts. A little over a month ago he went into the hospital and had surgery for a perforated ulcer, and a week after had to have a second surgery because of an issue with the first. Since then he had been very weak and two weeks ago was sent from the hospital to a physical rehab to regain his strength.

This morning momma got a call that the rehab had to send him to the ER due to stomach distress and vomiting.

My momma is worried for her father, and just asks that you send a good thought out for him. She appreciates it quite a lot.

Black and White Sunday

What's got me looking like a silly squirrel on black and white Sunday? Come on back tomorrow to find out!

Sepia Saturday

Today momma decided we should join in with Ruckus the Eskie's on his blog hop, Sepia Saturday.

We got some snow here today in Pennsylvania! Soon as Momma got home I wanted to be out in it. I love pushing it around with my nose.

Or did you guess that already? BOL.

Ready for the next big holiday!

Yupper puppers, I am! After all those holidays in a row last year...Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years....I didn't think I would ever ever ever hear that word again!

Now though, I'm ready! And Momma tells me that the next one is Valentines Day! A day for celebrating all kinds of love! Of course, it's still about a month away...but who says you can't get started a little bit early with some decoration?

Or maybe even a brand-new collar?

Look at what Mom got me!

A new collar!

She got it from a shop on etsy by the name of Dog Collars Etc. She wanted to get me something cute and fitting for coming Valentines day that wasn't too cutesy and girly and covered in hearts...and then she found this cupid collar and thought it was perfect!

Here, look at it again!
She says the price was right, too. My collar, in a medium, cost ten dollars with no shipping costs. Pretty nice, right?

So now Momma's got me a spiffy collar...along with that she's gone and overhauled my blog for the holiday (though she says the background might go, *I* say it's fine and she should give me another treat play tug with me leave it alone...) and soon she plans on sending in a nice picture of me to my furiend Ranger so he can dress me up handsome for the Queen of Hearts dance being hosted by Mayoress Madi!

I'm so excited about it! This will be my first ever dance...I just hope I don't like like a silly squirrel or something when the time comes!

Oh...! One other thing! I need a DATE for the dance!

...would you like to go to the Queen of Hearts dance with me?

....wait, what was that Momma?

I'm still to young to start going out with girls?!

AWWW MAN!

Oh well...even though I can't have a date yet...I'm sure I'll still have lots and lots of fun!

Mr. Chewy asked ME to do a review!

Late last month I received and email, and no...this wasn't just any old email! This was an email from a Mr.Andrew of the super-amazing pet supply website Chewy.com. In his email he asked if I might be interested in doing some reviews in 2014 on varying products for the website... well OF COURSE I was thrilled! Momma has used Chewy a few times in the past to get things for me (wait...you mean that wasn't the toothie-fairy?!)  and EVERY TIME the product selection has been outstanding, the prices beyond reasonable, the customer service way beyond the topest notch, and the delivery time...Ha! What delivery time? It always seemed like as soon as she placed the order my things were at our door!

Chewy, in my own and my momma's opinions, is the best of the best when it comes to pet supply websites. We both highly recommend it!

But now...about that review!

So Mr.Andrew asked if I'd like to do a review, and I told him YES! Shortly thereafter he sent another email with a variety of treats to chose from and boy-oh-boy did they all look good! It took me about FOREVER to pick just one, but eventually I did.

This is what I chose! Fromm's Cranberry Liver treats!

I, with the help of my Momma, chose the Fromm Cranberry Liver treats.  Now, I am no stranger to the Fromm Family line of foods (my mealtimes are currently Fromm's grain-free Surf-n-Turf kibble mixed with some variety of Wellness canned food) so I just knew I was in for something really good when it came to their treats!

One of the things my Momma likes to look for in my treats and foods is an easy-to-understand ingredient list. The longer the list, the more room for strange unknown words and additives in what I'm eating. With these treats there is no question about anything in them, she can count them on one paw hand!

Wheat flour, Wisconsin cranberries, chicken liver, salt, garlic powder

So so so so soooooo easy! One thing to note is that these are not a grain free treat, so for any of my furiends with grain allergies I am sorry but these may not be for you.

Another thing to mention about these treats is this: they are each only ONE CALORIE each. Now, I don't really know what a calorie is or what it has to do with my foods, but momma assures me they are bad things that can make you fat if you eat too many of them.

Now...since these only have one little calorie each, that means I can have the whole bag a bunch of them at once, right?

Oh, but I have to give them a try first to see if I even like them!

Ok Momma, let's open it up!

Oooo they look so good....!

I think I'll just take this one here...

What do you mean I still can't have it yet?! You want me to show my furiends the shape and size of the treats?!

MOOOOOOOM!

Shaped almost like a little clover, just about the size of a quarter.
There! They've seen the shape and size...can I PUH-LEESE try it for MYSELF now?!

Really...what's a dog have to do to get a taste of his own treat around here...

Oh there it is...looks so good...

Now to have a taste....!!

For such a little treat...these guys pack a very powerful Crunch! (If you'd like to hear just how much of one, you can check out the short instagram video momma made of me practicing a 'leave it!' with them.) Other then the loud crunch...what else did I think of Fromm's Cranberry Liver treats?

DELICIOUS!

Once I had one, I wanted another one. And another one...and then another one! And, since they do only have one calorie each, Momma didn't feel bad about giving me a few more.

Omnomnomnom!
So, my expert doggie opinion? Really really really super crunchy-delicious treats! Crossing my paws and hoping that this isn't the first and only time Momma has a bag of these in my treat basket!

(Note:  We received one free bag of Fromm Cranberry Liver treats in return for a full, honest review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% our own and freely given. Any links included throughout this blog post are just in case someone is curious themselves about the websites and/or product mentioned. )

Time Warp Tuesday blog hop!

Oh my dog was momma excited to see this hop going around! It's been grey and raining and dreary here allllll day long, and she wasn't sure what she was going to post for my blog today.

Then Mollie and Easy came to her rescue with their Time-Warp blog hop!

They say it's for both peeps and pooches, so Mom has decided to bite the bullet and go first.

The Momma I know looks quite different from the momma of the past.

Summer camp, circa...2000, maybe? Momma was about 14 or 15. She's the girl in the bottom right.

Momma was never a small kid, actually she was quite overweight, and she was like that for a long time. All through school, and then for a few years after.

Circa 2007.

2009! One of the first pictures of her and poppa. It was like Jack Sprat and his wife then...

After she met poppa, she decided she needed to change. Not for him, though he may have been a catalyst (you would never know looking at the photo, but he too had lost a lot of weight. He became her biggest support and cheerleader, and still is) but for herself.

And now, in 2013 this is the momma I know.

Me and momma, summer 2013!

And that's Mom's timewarp! MY turn!

Here's me as a tiny little baby puppy...when my eyes still looked blue! This is a picture momma was emailed from the woman who own my birth momma.

Late April/Early May 2013

Then in June my momma came to pick me up...and this is the first picture Momma ever took of me!

It was love already!
And how can there be a first picture with Momma without a first picture with my Poppa?

I was so tiny then!

Those pictures were both taken back in June, when I was 3 months old...but now it's time to warp forward to today! On the 21st of January I will officially be 9 months old and have been loving with Momma for 7 months!

This is me today...or, well...two days ago...because Momma didn't take any pictures today and the pictures she took yesterday are on poppa's computer at his house!

Now this IS a blog hop, so be sure to jump around to check out everyone else past blast, too!

Lazy day

It's Monday, and momma is off today. We came up to poppa's last night and he, Honey and I all had a really intense game of tug. Naturally my poppa and I won. Then this morning after dropping poppa off at work momma and I went for car trips to all sort of fun places...Petco, Pet Goods and Living Pawsitively. All places where I could go in, too! She's hoping that the more places she takes me where I'm welcome, the more of a chance there will be that at some point I will stop barking so much at people. As it is, I REALLY REALLY like to let people know when I'm around! Of course I do love going to these places, and I practically pull Mom through the doors to get in...something else she says she needs to work with me more on. Ha! We'll see about that one. Poppa told me once that she practically drags him into people stores sometimes...maybe I should tell her that I must get it from her! Think that'll help my case?

Mom...it's your fault I pull!
So after our running around this morning we returned to poppa's to wait for him to finish his work day.

What's the best way to wait, you ask?

Pet Blogger Challange 2014 - My first time!

Hello all! Wesley's mom, Amanda, here about to take over his blog for a little bit. Why? Because zipping around the blogs today I discovered that today there's a survey of sorts going around and I wanted to participate in it! It's the Pet Blogger challange, being hosted by Will My Dog Hate Me and Go Pet Friendly.

Actually, that's a lie...I didn't discover it today...I rediscovered it today. I actually saw mention of it a few weeks ago and made a mental note to participate, I even copied all the questions and make an icon on my computer desktop labeled 'JAN 10 - DO THIS ON BLOG'.

Did that help at all? Nope. I completely forgot until my blog wanderings. Whoops.

The moral is that I'm a completely forgetful, swiss-cheese for brain human female participating in this challenge today so read on down below the link-image to see my responses to the questions asked!

Pet Blogger Challenge Jan. 10

 1. How long have you been blogging? Please tell us why you started blogging, and, for anyone stopping by for the first time, give us a quick description of what your blog is about.
I have been blogging for 3 months exactly as of January 3rd. Wow! That time went by quick...I feel like I just made that first post a week ago! My reasons for starting the blog aren't complicated. I had just recently gotten my puppy, Wesley. In researching about training and foods and all other sorts of fun and needed dog things, I continued to run across these amazingly fun, informative blogs. The more I browsed through them, following sidebar links and blog hops, the more I began to consider attempting one of my own. I'm not quite knowledgable enough to offer advice or training tips, but it would be fun to share my minature poodle with other people and at the same time keep a diary of sorts to look back on later. So while my blog can't be considered very full of useful information or training tips (something once I've gained more knowledge on both and am comfortable with sharing it that might change someday!) I do hope that people are at least finding it fun to read through.

2. Name one thing about your blog, or one blogging goal that you accomplished during 2013, that made you most proud.
Starting it, and keeping up with it! I am notorious for begining something and then quickly growing bored with it - honestly this isn't the first blog I've tryed to keep! This is just the first successful one.

3. When you look at the post you wrote for last year’s Pet Blogger Challenge, or just think back over the past year, what about blogging has changed the most for you?
Whoops! This doesn't apply to me...Poodle At Play didn't exist last year!

4. What lessons have you learned this year – from other blogs, or through your own experience – that could help us all with our own sites?
With my blog still being in it's newborn puppy stage, I'm still learning things every day. One thing that does stick out is socialize, socialize, socialize! Use those blog hops, comment on your fellow bloggers posts! I spent a lot of time just hoping from blog to blog reading about everyone else's going-ons and absorbing the knowledge offered. Sometimes another person's blog topic can spark a wonderful idea of my own. The more I read and browse the more I grow and learn.

5. If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge you’re having with your blog, what would it be?
Actually, as of right now I'm pretty good! I'm still fumbling through some things blog, but overall I've discovered the answers to any questions I have with some research - and more fumbling around! If I do come across something that I can't properly solve, you can bet your favorite bone I'll be asking!

6. What have you found to be the best ways to bring more traffic to your blog, other than by writing great content?
Going back to question number four above - socialize! Comment! Be a neighbor to your fellow bloggers! If you show yourself to be a friendly, amiable blogger chances are soon you'll find you have people who are very willing to be that right back at you.

7. How much time to do you spend publicizing your blog, and do you think you should spend more or less in the coming year?
If by publicize, you mean running through the internet shouting 'READ MY BLOG!' I spend none. Again, any of my publicizing goes back to socializing and commenting on other people's things. :)

8. How do you gauge whether or not what you’re writing is appealing to your audience?
Mainly by comments left. I haven't gotten a real understanding of stat counters yet or else I might include amount of traffic coming in.

9. How do you know when it’s time to let go of a feature or theme that you’ve been writing about for a while?
I haven't really run into this problem just yet, as I haven't really had any themes or features - I've just been writing about day to day things and going-ons.

10. When you’re visiting other blogs, what inspires you to comment on a post rather than just reading and moving on?
I try to comment when I can, even if it's just something like a 'hello! I was here visiting!' Of course a question posed somewhere within the blog is mighty helpful some days!

11. Do you do product reviews and/or giveaways?
Yes, but not many so far - I've only done two reviews and one giveaway. In 2014 I'm hoping to be able to do more of both. I think they are quite fun.

12. If so, what do you find works best, and what doesn’t work at all?
Since I've done so very few, I don't have a real good answer for this. Come back next year when I've more experience and I'll give a better answer then!

13. If not, is this something you’d like to do more of? What hurdle is getting in your way?
Of course I want to do more of it! The only real problem for me with it is funds. A non-funded review would cost both the price of the product and the shipping of it...and while that's not a really super expensive thing...it's still money that I need to be able to put elsewhere. Gas, for instance. Ew.

14. When writer’s block strikes and you’re feeling dog-tired, how do you recharge?
For writer's block I just let it go...maybe I call that a 'flashback' day and offer up a not-before posted picture of Wesley when he was all fluffy and small. To recharge...what's better then a nap? Except for maybe coffee.

15. Have you ever taken a break from your blog? How did that go?
As of yet, no really. There has been a few times where due to personal life things and just not having time I haven't been able to update, but it was never a decision to break. More like life just went 'Nope! Not today!'

16. Have you ever thought about quitting your blog altogether? What makes you stay?
Nope, not at all. I am just loving being able to share my dog with other people, and to also create a diary of sorts to be able to look back on later.

17. What goals do you have for your blog in 2014?
I have no real concrete ones - just to continue on with it and hope that people continue to come by and enjoy it!

------------------------------------------

Not for you!

So yesterday Momma was putting away all her Christmas stuffs and/or attempting cleaning out the basement. In her efforts, she uncovered her birdfeeder from last winter.  She went out to get some seed for it, and a few birdbells and hung them up as soon as she got home.

See! There they are.
She hung them on a double hooked shepards hook meant for her hanging plants in the warmer months, right on the corner of the porch by the window so we could watch the birds up close. Of course birds aren't the only ones super interested in birdfeeders., which is ok with Momma.

MOM! There's something else out there...and it's no bird!
The very first visitor at our newly hung birdfeeders was....a squirrel.

This fluffy little lady!

Mom was not surprised. I was not happy and told the furry rat quite loudly all about it. BIRDfeeder, I told it. Not SQUIRRELfeeder!

Mom just told me to let it go, they need to eat in the winter too. And besides, they can be more fun to watch then the birds sometimes.

I am not at all sure I believe her, and I plan to keep a very watchful eye on the furry rat.
