Hiking in the Gap

Image
Not to far from our stomping grounds is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area . It's a really pretty area, and I've driving through it numerous times in my life. I've always said that I wanted to do some of the hiking trails that wind throughout the area, and today seemed like a good day. Our little hiking party consisted of myself, Wesley and Chris. The blue dot trail was VERY uphill.  Unsurprising...considering it was us climbing the mountain! Of course...Wesley made sure to leave plenty of pee-mail all along as we went. When we realized we were finally hitting the top and it was almost time to start heading back down! WOOHOO! Treeline! This was the view from the top of the mountain. That's the Delaware river there on the right, and on the other side of the river is Pennsylvania. A picture of me and Wesley at the top. I took the picture just above from where we are sitting in the picture below....

One post...three hikes?!

Well, I TOLD you we had been doing a lot of hiking lately. Now Momma has an influx of pictures to share from not one, not two, but THREE separate hikes taken over the past week. Instead of loading tons and tons of pictures up, she threw them into three separate collages made on picmonkey.com.

More hiking!

When Momma said this was going to be a year for hiking, she wasn't kidding around! We went hiking again today...a whole 6 miles! And this time we weren't alone...Poppa came with us! He even got some new hiking boots for this 'hiking year'! Brand new hikers...aren't they pretty! We were also in NJ for this hiking trip, but not in the Delaware Water Gap like last time. Nope, this time it was somewhere else, one of the many natural reservation areas around.  First thing conquered...this old fallen tree! Spring is still young yet, and there really wasn't much color around...still lots of 'brown and drab' yet. Momma did find a few pretty things among all that though. Me among some stinky plants Momma said were called skunk cabbage. Ew. Pretty yellow flower. Momma looked it up and thinks this is called a 'trout lilly'. Funny, it doesn't look anything like Miss. Lily, or a trout either!  Small little white flo...

First Spring hiking!

Image
Momma and I had us some fun today...we went for our first hike this year! Momma says it's our first of what she hopes to be many of the same....I hope so too, cause this was lots and lots of fun! For this first hike we headed over to the Delaware Water Gap National recreation area, and initially she wanted to go to a place called Millbrook village. We didn't end up going to Millbrook. Instead, at the almost there point she got distracted by a road veering off to the left that lead to Blue Mountain and Crater lakes. This is where we ended up walking! One of the first things we found, or rather that found us...was this little lady! Can you see her hiding in the trees, staring at us? We almost missed her, she blends in so well. The only way we did see her was because there were a few other deer with her, and those deer had started to run before we even saw them. Momma heard them rustling the leaves as they ran and then viola! There she was. Further on in our hike we e...

Backyard exploring

Image
It's Monday and Momma's off from work, so this mean we're sending our day at poppa's again. He's currently at work at this office, so it's just Momma, Honey and me in the house right now. It is cold outside again, back into the mid 30's and not at all nice and warm and feeling like Spring at all. Apparently this cold it going to hang around a few more days, and there is even rumor of getting an inch or so of SNOW for tomorrow morning. And just when we were really starting to get rid of all the old stuff! It being cold out didn't stop me and Momma from taking a little mini exploratory walk around the backyard area, though!
