Just about one year ago today this was taken. Puppy me poking around in my toy basket, looking for that perfect thing to play with.

And for comparison, Momma took a similar photo of me just today...

Boy have I grown! Looks like so has all my stuff, BOL!

#FuelTheCure!!

Starting today and running through to this Saturday (June 28th) my buddy Oz the Terrier, together with Zuke's, is hosting a super-special blog hop - The Fuel the Cure blog hop.

Please click here to go to the main page on Oz's website for this blog hop

So, betcha you're wondering what's so super-special about it? Well, for every entry into this blog hop, Zuke's will be making a $5.00 donation to The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund.

Now, that's pretty awesome...but what is this fund? Well, straight off their website it says:

At the Dog & Cat Cancer Fund we help fight canine and feline cancer.
We work directly with veterinarians to help needy families get treatment for their cats and dogs suffering from cancer.
We offer grants to help scientists conduct research into the next generation of life saving treatments.
We promote prevention by raising awareness, understanding the risk factors, and encouraging early testing for canine and feline cancer.

What a wonderful, worthwhile thing that is!! Thankfully Momma has never had any issues with cancer in any of her pets, but she does know people who have - both right here in Blogville and outside of the internet - so she has seen just what a heartbreaking thing it can be. Knowing that, she also knows just how wonderful a thing this fund is.

Now...there was a second part to this blog hop! Each post should include a photo, or photos, or your pet furry family member LOVING LIFE!

Well now, that's easy!!!

So come on everyone, join in on the #FuelTheCore blog hop. Let's help raise some green papers, all the while lovin' life!

Check out my new favorite toy!

As always, our good friend Mr.Andrew at Chewy emailed Momma earlier at the beginning of tis month wondering if I'd be intrested in giving a try to one of a couple different products.  As always, I was super delighted to do so!
This month there were a few completely different things offered - things NOT edible - TOYS! I DO love me a good toy, and chose the  Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Woof Fetch Ball with Rope Dog Toy.

So, first off, what does Chewy.com have to say about this toy?

These Orbee-Tuff Woof. Fetch balls are durable, bouncy, buoyant and mint-scented!

Key Benefits
  • Non-toxic
  • Recyclable
  • Rinses clean
  • Made in the U.S.A.

I have to say, this toy is SOOOO much fun! Since there's a nice rope handle on it, and the ball is a decent weight (heavy, but not too heavy!) it's super great for playing fetch! Bonus, if it hits a hard surface it bounces real well, so just when you think it's coming down and you can get it...NOPE!

Because of the rope handle it's also pretty much perfect for a good game of my very favorite game, TUG!

Momma really likes this toy too for all the reason I like it...AND she says it's also really super easy to clean, and that it smells really good. Like Mint!

So in conclusion....Momma and I are both SUPER HAPPY AMAZINGLY pleased with this product!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some serious fetching and tugging to do....

(((Notes from Wes' Momma: One...I have no idea why Blogger decided to highlight some of this post in white. It seems to want to be a pain today. Two..I am thinking about changing the 'voice' used in this blog. It's fun to try and write as Wes, but more and more I find myself wanting to write as just myself. I'm going to give it a little bit more thought before actually doing so.))

REVIEW: Pet Naturals of Vermont Flea+Tick

As you all know, Momma and I (and sometimes Poppa, too!) like to go for hikes in our area on a pretty regular basis. So far this year we've done a handful of them, with plans on doing many more this season...Momma and Poppa are even talking about going on a super-special few nights overnight trip somewhere in New York in a month or two! They say that I'm going to, and oh boy am I excited!

BUT as excited as I am about that, and as much fun as hiking is it does have a few parts to it that are no fun.

One of those parts is ticks and bugs.

Especially ticks, which seem to be particularly awful this year!

ticks
Wes Momma: Super gross picture, I know...but after one hike this is how many ticks I pulled off my little dog despite him wearing a Seresto collar..and that isn't even all of them! These were found after a good brush down and look over, a finger scrubbing bath (and second lookover), and then another brush down and lookover while towel drying.  I have NO IDEA where so many of these things managed to hide on my 16 pound dog that I didn't find them in all my previous checks. Either I'm completely blind to these buggers or they have managed a form of invisibility that lasts a certain amount of time before wearing off...)
This is why when Pet Naturals of Vermont reached out to me and my Momma and asked if I'd be interested in trying out their Flea+Tick all natural insect repellent I was more then excited to give them an enthusiastic YES.

Pet Naturals of Vermont Flea+Tick product

Since I've been a little puppy Momma has always had me on some sort of flea and tick prevention - K9 Advantix II and more recently for this year the Seresto collar - but she was never very happy about the chemicals used. Pet Naturals of Vermont's  Flea+Tick seemed to be the answer to this issue.

Here is a description of the product, straight off the Pet Naturals of Vermont Flea+Tick product page:

Flea + Tick Repellent Spray by Pet Naturals® is designed as a spray for ultimate convenience and safety. Flea + Tick includes lemongrass, cinnamon, sesame and Castor oils to provide a pleasant and refreshing smell with clean, non-sticky active ingredients. The combination of Brazilian oils from certified forests act as a natural shield from unwanted pests. The oils have been used for centuries by the indigenous people of the Amazon forest to keep pests from detecting the scent from their skin. Flea + Tick Repellent Spray does not contain any drugs or synthetic chemicals, and it is safe for use on all pets, bedding, and applications to collars. This natural flea and tick repellent has no known toxic effects from licking the skin.

That's the description, and here's a list of the ingredients, also right off the product's website:

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Lemongrass Oil                                           4 %
Cinnamon Oil                                             1 %
Sesame Oil                                               1 %
Castor Oil                                             0.5 %
INERT INGREDIENTS:
Purified Water                                        93.3 %
Vitamin E                                              0.2 %

All natural and super simple! Sounds good, right? Momma thought so too, and after doing some research on this product and checking out reviews left by other pet parents (on websites like Chewy and Amazon) she had some really super high hopes for it.

minature poodle with Pet Naturals of Vermont Flea+Tick

When it first arrived she wasted no time in busting into the package that it came in, and giving me a good spray over of it, being careful about not getting it in my eyes (Wes' Momma: When it came to his face I sprayed a bit of in my hands and then careful went over his snout and head.)

This product does, at first, have a VERY strong smell to it...but it's also a very super pleasant one and so Momma did not mind one bit about it. It did fade after a while, but still stayed with me to the point that when we went to Poppa's later that day everyone commented about how good I smelled, and did Momma give me a bath before coming over.

BUT of course the smell isn't the important thing about Pet Naturals of Vermont Flea+Tick...the important thing is....does it actually work?

Wellllll....on that I can't say it worked 100% for me. As far as keeping off fleas and mosquitos it seems to do a pretty good job. For the times that Momma and I have been in the yard playing or have taken a very mild hike/walk through the woods on well maintained paths she has not found any ticks on me, either.

However...when we've gone on heavier hikes on not so well maintained trails she has still found a demon bug tick or two on me.

Now, the amount of ticks has been MAJORLY less, which is a BIG, HUGE, AWESOME win.

Instead of finding 8-10 PLUS on me, she has only found 2 or 3. That is a HUGE difference from before! As a matter of fact the presence of them is probably much more due to the sheer amount of the evil-creatures that are lurking in the woods and tall grasses where we live and hike. Momma is pretty sure that a product would have to be made of 100% PURE MAGIC to manage to keep ticks off me with the way they are here and with the places we tend to go tromping through.

So what does that mean for our opinions of Pet Naturals of Vermont's Flea+Tick?

Momma DOES really like and recommend this product and will continue to use it on me this summer. For us personally  it's not something she thinks we can use alone as my one and only type of preventative, so she will use it in conjunction with something else. For other dogs out there (ones who do not go tromping through the woods and tall grasses and hiking in places where evil ticks like to hang out en mass) Momma is sure that the Flea+Tick could be used as the main form of preventative.

So...after all that boring reading are you curious about this product for yourself and interested in giving it a try for yourself?

Pet Naturals of Vermont has offered to give a FREE 8oz bottle of Flea+Tick to the first 200 people to head over to THIS PAGE RIGHT HERE and sign up.

Not one of the first 100? Don't worry, because after that you can still receive a valuable coupon right to your email to try out this product for yourself!

Tasty Tuesday - Homemade Frosty Paws

Thankfully my Momma seems to be the forgiving sort, so even though I the squirrels made her super mad on Sunday she still made me something tasty for today.

Which is even more special, because she hardly makes me anything ever - Not even for my own birthday or anything! So what is it that she made for me?

Homemade Frosty Paws doggie treats!

Momma says these are actually really super easy to make. Ingredient wise all you need are some bananas, peanut butter, plain or vanilla yogurt, and honey. That's it! Then you just measure it all out, throw it in a blender until it's all mixed up and smooth, taste test-

poodle taste testing

- then divide the mixture up into something you wouldn't mind putting into the freezer (paper cups, a muffin tin, used up yogurt cups, etc...) -

Pop them into the freezer and have some patience as they freeze into delicious cold treats!

((Wes Momma: The recipe I used for this came from a generic google search which landed me on this website and so that is the recipe I used for these. )

Now, what to know what other tasty things are out there this Tuesday? Hop around and find out!

Monday Mischief - Uh-oh...

So yesterday if you read my blog you may have noticed a few things.

One, that it was Father's Day! Yay for fathers!

Two, that is was my first ever gotcha day! YAY ME!

Three...some doggy made my poor Momma all upset!

You see, yesterday she was taking pictures with her most favorite camera, a Nikon D90. At one point she had to take a photo break so she could take a potty break.

Carefully she set the camera on the kitchen table, but left the strap hanging off of it...

Photo reenactment! Also...please disregard super, super old chairs that are headed to the dump someday (hopefully) soon.

Then - while she was busy doing her own personal business - there came a loud BANG!!! from the kitchen, and when she came back there lie her poor camera on the floor in two pieces.

The camera body, and a few feet away the camera lens.

Momma's eyes landed on me...poor, completely innocent me...and she growled meaner then any doggie can ever hope to growl "Wesley, what did you do?!"

"But it wasn't me, Momma!" I told her, telling her the absolute 100% honest truth. "It was the squirrels! THEY did it!"

...she didn't look like she believed me at all, but sort of closed her eyes for a minute before sighing and picking up the camera pieces and checking out the damage.

As it turns out, the camera body seems to be fine. The lens, though....

Can you see where a piece broke off?
The little plastic bits that lock the lens onto the camera body broke off in the fall, and now the lens will not connect to the camera. Momma says she's more then glad that the camera seems to be ok, but is pretty upset still over the lens. Thankfully, she DOES have a second camera (also a Nikon. This one is a D3000) as well as a second lens (an 18-55mm, the one that broke was a 18-105mm) so she's not totally bummed out completely.

But that doesn't mean at all that she's anything like happy.

Those stupid squirrels!

((Wes Momma - Here's a bit of almost funny about this. Chris, Wes' Poppa, was talking about me upgrading my camera this past week...and I kept on telling him 'No, that's ok. The camera I'm using is just fine.' Maybe it's a sign from fate? Then again the camera does still seem to work ok...at least I'm not noticing anything immediately wrong about it. I'm not exactly a super camera-guru though. ))

B&W Sunday, Father's Day Annnnnd...

also my gotcha day! YAY!

So Happy Father's day out there to one and all- if you're a father, a grandfather, a stepfather, a fur-kid father, a single mother who pulls double duty, or any other such thing. Happy Father's day to you!

I'm also joining in on Nola and Sugar's Black and White Sunday blog hop today...and what better way to do it then with a picture of me and my Poppa from exactly one year ago today!

((Ps- Uhoh...I did something not-good today and Momma is quite upset with me. It may have involved her Nikon D3000 and a hard BANG on the ground...))

June 12, 2014

She's moody?!

It's an icky wet, rain-y, cold, no-good day today...and Momma seems to be in a mood. Well, what does SHE have to be all moody about? I'm t he one who should be moody! First she was way late coming home! Like...HOURS late!Second, she let me run out of my Stella and Chewy's this morning...and even though she was late coming home she didn't bring anymore back for me! This means I had to eat my Taste of the Wild dry...DRY! Can you believe it?!

And she thinks she gets to be all moody and grummbly about some flat tire thing?!

Humans and their silly little problems!

(Wes' Momma: It's truely been a not-so-good day. Screw in tire flats are no fun. And then you have a hell of a time getting your car jack from it's little cubby hole. And then you find out your tire iron is missing. And then it starts absolutely pouring down rain, Noah-style. Thank goodness for kind mechanic-strangers willing to help...even in monsoon-like rains. )

Tongue Out Tuesday

poodle dog tongue out

Woofie all! Mom's been super lazy with MY blog lately! Going out and about in the world, walking with my poppa and visiting her dad in the hospital...but NOT BLOGGING. She has apologized to me and said she'd try to be better about it this week. Humph. I'm not sure I believe her!
I forgive her...this time. Treats are a powerful tool of forgiveness. BOL.
