Pike County Humane Society

Hello Blogville! I'm stealing the blog from Wesley for today to ask for your help on behalf of our local animal shelter.

Logo is property of the Pike County Humane Society.

In the area where I live in PA, we have one animal shelter that serves all the townships in the Pike county (twelve of them). According to Wikipedia, Pike County has a total area of 567 square miles of which 545 of that is land.

That's a lot of land and area for one shelter...and this shelter is financial trouble in a big way.

I'm going to pull this post directly from the Pike County Humane Society's Facebook page, because they can explain it better then I:

Your Pike County Humane Society in NEPA is in fact, in the most desperate need of financial donations. We are not able to take in any animals at this time.
There is no shortage of animals needing our help, needing to come in, needing homes, needing surgeries.....needing a safe haven. We take pride in how social we are, how animals stay till they get adopted, even if it takes months, for some it's been years. We believe in this system, this social system & fairness to all who come through our doors. But we are at a standstill now. Hopeful but the math scarily speaks for itself. This is not just our shelter, this is what approximately 130 animals call home till they find their forever home. We have many dogs & cats available for adoption. And more and more calls day in and day out come, with pending surrenders for every reason under the sun. We have a 42% adoption rate on cats and 96.8% adoption rating on dogs.
The cost to run efficiently far exceeds $28,000.00 to now $30,000.00 per month. And each year that passes, rises.
PCHS handles all townships of Pike County PA.
We are thankful for the townships who have been consistent with assistance. Last year, Dingmans Twp $4000.00, Lehman Twp $4000.00, Milford Twp $500.00, Milford Boro $500.00, Matamoras Boro $300.00.
We have received no funds, zero, from Porter (last contribution was 8 years ago), Greentown/Greeley, Blooming Grove, Lackawaxen (nothing in 5 years), Palmyra, Delaware Twp (nothing in 8 years), Westfall and Shohola Twp.
We receive no funds whatsoever from the HSUS, AHA nor ASPCA.
From the State, we've received $600.00 since January 2015.
We have been able to survive all these blessed years from dedicated supporters to the powers that be & by the Grace of God.
The animals did not ask to be without a home, we give them a home till they can be in a forever home. Bluntly, if doors close, they will have no home, there will be no future intakes, clinics (helping over 500 animals in the early Spring this year alone), spay/neuter, stray calls, surrenders, injured animals on the road, emergency help, help with Safe Haven domestic situations, pets who's owners have passed away or gone into any assisted living.....this will cease.
We are the only shelter in Pike County PA. These services we extend to help residents of our area, will cease. What does that mean? Even more stray cats and add stray dogs that could turn into packs of dogs with no where to go. No one to call for emergency help. Where will they go, without us?
Please help, please help keep this amazing shelter open. Thank you extended to you all, thank you, from the animals!

Some of the townships the shelter serves are obviously not doing their part, and that is a hurt on the heart. I've never done one before, but for MY part I'm going to work on organizing a bake sale/assisting with a bake sale with all proceeds to help benefit this shelter.

I'm posting this here, now, to ask you for your help in helping to save our shelter. I's not your shelter and I hate to put this here and ask for such a thing....but I will for the sake of the shelter. And every little bit can help.

Every. Little. Bit.

Two dollars. Five dollars. Heck, one dollar can make a difference.

And it would be so appreciated. So very appreciated.

If you would like to donate, here is a link to the shelter's own webpage. There is a Paypal donation button right on the home page, on the left side.

Beautiful Day, STUNNING day end

Yesterday was a truely beautiful day. We spent a lot of time hanging around outside at my dad's house taking pictures. My new header is a result of that as are a host of others.

I'm getting good at this modeling stuff.

It was also really hot and humid yesterday, so Mom wasn't making me hang out to long in the hot sun. If I wasn't modeling for mom and we were outside, I was hanging out with Honey in the shade.

Honey and I both agree...It's HOT

BUT the best part of the day was the end of the day. After all that hot "and humid we FINALLY got some rain! For about ten minutes it was just as if the heaven's had opened up and rain poured down. Then it stopped for ten minutes...then it rained again for ten...and then it was over.

After it was over Mom left me home with Dad for a awhile to go to the store, she said she would only be a few minutes....but a few minutes went by...and then an hour...and finally an hour and a half. Dad sent Mom and text to make sure she wasn't eaten by a bear or something on the way to the store...and she wasn't. The response he got was this: "Sorry. I'm stuck staring at the stunning sunset."

And this picture from Mom's phone.

Mom didn't come home until after dark, and when she did she was grumbling about how she wished she had taken her camera with her!

Around the lake

The community where my dad lives in New Jersey is called 'Sunset Lakes'. It's not a very large community, and really only hosts two lakes. One bigger one, and one secondary smaller one next to the big one.

The larger lake is right across the street from my dad's house, and there is a nice little path around it for people to use. It's also stocked with fish so people can enjoy some catch and release fishing.

It's for sure pretty to look at.

What a nice view!

Though however nice the views Mom kept our walk sort of quick, because when you looked under the tree shades all you could see where black swarms of annoying little gnats.

This view made me go 'EW YUCK.'

But quick didn't necessarily mean that I didn't get the chance to check out what some of the other dogs in the community were saying.

Elvis the golden was here!

Later this same day Dad, Mom and I went out for another walk elsewhere...a nice long 2.5 mile one. Sadly, Mom didn't bring her camera so there are no pictures from that excursion...though one sad thing came of it.

Mom and Dad decided that I would not be joining them on further such trips!

What?! Why can't I go?!

They have assured me it has nothing to do with anything I've done...but that ticks are going to be BAD this year.  After my walk with Dad and Mom, Mom gave me a good look over for those evil blood-sucking critters.

She found more then a dozen, and then four more when we got back to the house after she gave me an after woods-walk bath.

And this is while wearing a Seresto collar, with K9 Advantix AND a natural tick/bug repellent (used sort of like a human's bug spray).

That was a lot of icky little critters for such a little walk, on a pretty well maintained path while Mom kept me on close leash so I couldn't get into the brush.

They will still be going out hiking (heavily bug sprayed up, with tucked in layers and hats and crazy body-lookovers when they get back) and Mom will still share those hiking pictures...I just will not be involved.

I'm sad about Mom and Dad's decision...but I DO know it's probably for the best for me.

Oh well.

Stupid ticks.

Something tasty this way comes...

So as mentioned yesterday, today I have something tasty to share with you!

Now even though we were absent from Blogville, each month the thoughtful Miss. Sydney from would continue to send us an email with a choice of some really tasty looking treats to try. I would be all pumped up for trying something new and yummy, and kept on hoping that Mom would email Miss. Sydney back...but she never did. Something about it not being right to accept the offer if there was no plan on fulfilling our blogging end of the bargain. Well...I DO suppose she was right about that.

So when the email from Miss.Sydney came earlier this month and Mom actually accepted...I was so very excited! Not only did that mean we were coming back but...TASTY TREATS were on the way!

So...for the month of May...what treats did Mom pick?

First off...they really sounded really good...with lots of great-sounding things on the bag like this:

Natural, USA made, Nutritious, Delicious AND grain free? Woohoo! Sounds like Mom picked a good one this month!

But....what exactly are they?

Oh! Wellness CORE Superfood Protein bars in the Salmon, Whitefish and Pomegranate flavor.

These things are just sounding better and better (I love fishy foods!) and though I've never had pomegranate before I am up for trying anything once.

So there are tasty fish in there...and this mysterious pomegranate...but what else?

Ingredients List:  Salmon, Whitefish, Peas, Flaxseed, Natural Flavor, Cane Molasses, Salt, Broccoli, Carrots, Pomegranates, Mixed Tocopherols added to preserve freshness, Dried Cultured Skim Milk, Rosemary Extract

Well, it sounds like a buncha good stuff to me! Is it time to open the bag yet...because I really feel like it's time...

For those wondering...the treats are pretty large. They are also pretty smelly. Mom's  nose may have wrinkled up and she may have said something along the lines of 'PEEYEW!' upon opening the bag. I don't see what that fuss was me they smelled divine!

And, when I finally got to taste them....oh...the taste! Just as soon as I finished up the one I was more then ready for another one!

Just one more, Mom?

These are yet another treat from Chewy that are total winners in my opinion! With those ingredients, and with the way I inhaled my tester treat Mom is inclined to agree and has told me that they may become another regular treat purchase.

Click here to be sent right to the product page on Chewy, and get a bag of your very own!

((DISCLAIMER: Opinion of these treats is 100% honest and our own. Except for receiving one 5.5 oz bag free of charge from the pet-supply website , we were in no other way compensated. ))

Just want to say...

For everyone's words, hugs, margarita offers and just general support.  Until just recently I honestly didn't realize how much I actually miss (and I'm sure will always miss) my father.

So just thank you one and all.

Your words and support really do mean a whole lot.

I promised a fun and light-hearted post after my previous one...and I know this doesn't exactly fit the bill for that but...forgive me?

For about some yummy food talk?

You are missed, Daddy.

First, let me say I'm sorry for this post, but I'm taking the blog from Wesley today.

With this blog I try very much to keep it fun and carefree. Today though I am having problems getting into that particular mindset.

So, instead of trying to force myself into it, I'm just going to let it go.

And I apologize for that.

Two months ago, on Friday March 13th my father passed away.

Him being so sick these past months and that event are the reasons that Wesley and I went away from Blogville for so long in October and at the beginning of this year.

I like to tell myself that I'm at peace with his passing.

He was so sick, and always hurting and it was hurting myself and my sister to watch him as he was...because there was nothing we could do to help him.

All we could do was sit back and worry, and he just loved to tell me 'Amanda, stop worrying so much!'

It was something he told me at least once a day as I worried over him for so many reasons.

Now I don't have to worry about him anymore, and he's not sick or in pain anymore.

Those thoughts, especially that last one, comfort me.

But I still cry, because I miss my Daddy.

Very much.

And I am so sorry for being sad on this blog, it's not something I want to make a habit of or ever wanted to do, ever.

But today I just couldn't do anything else.

Love and miss you, Daddy.

Tomorrow, I promise, to be back to the regularly scheduled silliness and fun.

And after:

My mom is very pleased with the groomer she took me too! She think I look even more handsome then ever!

Enjoying the day

On Thursday it was so nice out that Mom and Dad and I did out first little hiking trip together of the season!

I lead the way, of course!

Lots of good smells around.

Check out me in action!

It WAS pretty hot out, and my hair right now it's pretty dense and long-ish, so Mom made sure I had plenty of water stops.

This is Mom's favorite picture of the day, Me and Dad, forging the way forward!

May 6, 2015

Mom and I did a little spring exploring yesterday in the woodsy area behind my poppa's house. It's not overgrown yet so it's easy to walk through. There's a little pond there and mom wanted to see if there were any turtles or ducks hanging around that she photograph.

Well with the way mom was tromping through the dead leaves and whatnot the ducks that were there heard her loooong before she even got close and took off, if there were turtles they were gone by the time she got close as well.

Which left just me and mom and the pond.

And there was this nice little slope-y rock there I thought to use to get in closer to inspect the water...

...well, I may have underestimated the slope-y-ness of the rock and gotten a wee bit to close because a moment later...

And with the edge being to steep I couldn't get myself out. Which of course gave mom the time she needed to get pictorial memory of the moment before she helped haul me out.

I did my best to shake off the muck and gross but not my best enough to get out of having to have a bath as soon as we got back into the house.

And now, insult to says she's made a grooming appointment for me for Monday.
